Industrial gear oil selection is a calculation, not a preference: pitch-line velocity, tooth loading, ambient and sump temperature and the reducer maker's recommendation decide the ISO VG. Once the grade is right, the EP package and oxidation life decide the drain interval.
ISO VG is defined at 40 °C. VG 220 is the general-purpose industrial grade for medium-speed, medium-load reducers; VG 320 is the workhorse for heavily loaded, slower-turning drives and for hot ambient conditions; VG 460 goes into very heavily loaded, low-speed, high-torque gearing — kiln drives, mill pinions, crusher and conveyor head drives — and into worm gearboxes where sliding contact dominates.
The EP additive system is sulphur-phosphorus, reacting under load to form a protective film that prevents scuffing and micropitting on the tooth flank. Performance is verified on the FZG A/8.3/90 rig, and our grades exceed failure load stage 12, which is the level most reducer builders require for CLP-classified oils under DIN 51517 Part 3. They also meet IS 8406 EP and typical AGMA EP gear lubricant requirements.
Beyond load carrying, three properties decide service life in continuous plant. Oxidation stability, because a gearbox at 80–95 °C sump temperature will otherwise thicken and varnish; water separation (demulsibility), because condensate and washdown water must drop out and be drained rather than emulsify; and air release with low foaming, because entrained air destroys the film in a churning gearbox. All three are formulated for, and all three are what a cheap gear oil fails on within months.
Rust and corrosion inhibition protects bearings and shafts during idle periods and under humid conditions; the oils are also compatible with common gearbox seal elastomers and paints. Filtration to a reasonable cleanliness code and a scheduled oil analysis programme extend the drain interval substantially — most plants running on these grades hold 4,000 to 8,000 hours depending on temperature and contamination.
We supply against your written specification and name the blender on the offer. Every consignment carries a batch certificate of analysis with viscosity at 40 °C and 100 °C, viscosity index, flash point and pour point, and FZG and copper-strip data can be provided where a plant's maintenance standard requires it.

- Industrial gear oil ISO VG 220 EP
- General-purpose EP gear oil for enclosed helical, spur and bevel reducers at medium speed and load, machine-tool gearboxes, conveyor and fan drives, and circulating systems at moderate temperature. Typical KV 220 / 19.0 cSt, VI 95, flash 240 °C, pour −9 °C.
- Industrial gear oil ISO VG 320 EP
- The standard grade for heavily loaded, slower reducers and hot plant environments — cement and sugar mill drives, steel plant reducers, crushers, mixers and heavy conveyors. Typical KV 320 / 24.0 cSt, VI 95, flash 242 °C, pour −9 °C.
- Industrial gear oil ISO VG 460 EP
- Heavy EP grade for very high torque at low speed and for worm gearing with high sliding contact: kiln and mill drives, mill pinions, elevator and crusher head drives, and gearboxes running above 90 °C sump. Typical KV 460 / 30.5 cSt, VI 96, flash 246 °C, pour −6 °C.

- ISO VG 150 for lighter, faster reducers; VG 680 and VG 1000 for extreme low-speed high-torque drives and open gearing; synthetic PAO and PAG grades for high-temperature or food-grade (H1) duty; and semi-fluid NLGI 00/0 gear greases for leaking or splash-lubricated housings.

Industrial gear oil is bought by the drum and charged straight into a gearbox, so cleanliness at the bung is as important as the oil itself.
- 210 L mild steel drums, epoxy-lined where specified, bung-sealed with tamper caps

What importers usually ask us first
How do we choose between VG 220, 320 and 460?
Follow the gearbox maker's plate or manual first. Absent that, the rule of thumb is: medium speed and load at normal ambient — VG 220; heavily loaded, slower drives or hot plant — VG 320; very low speed, very high torque, or worm gearing — VG 460. If the sump runs above 90 °C, step up one grade; if the plant is cold-started in winter, step down or move to a synthetic.
What does CLP mean on the data sheet?
CLP is the DIN 51517 Part 3 classification for mineral gear oils with additives that improve ageing resistance, corrosion protection and load-carrying capacity — in practice, an inhibited EP gear oil. It is the classification most European reducer builders reference, and it is the level our VG 220, 320 and 460 grades meet.
How long can we run the oil before draining?
Typically 4,000 to 8,000 hours, but that is a range, not a promise: sump temperature, water ingress and dust load are what actually consume the oil. With quarterly analysis tracking viscosity, water content, acid number and wear metals, plants routinely reach the upper end. Without analysis, drain conservatively.
Can industrial gear oil replace automotive gear oil?
No. Industrial CLP oils are graded by ISO VG and formulated for continuous, thermally stable circulating duty; automotive GL-4/GL-5 oils are graded by SAE and formulated for shock loading in hypoid axles with different seal and yellow-metal constraints. Use each in its own application — we supply both, on the same shipment if needed.
Do you supply synthetic or food-grade gear oils?
Yes, on request. PAO and PAG synthetics for high-temperature or wide-ambient duty and long drains, and NSF H1 registered food-grade gear oils for food, beverage and pharmaceutical plant. These are sourced to your written specification with the blender disclosed on the offer.
