Division 03 · Pet food
Dog food formulated by breed, not by price bracket.
Most exported dog food is one formula sold to every animal. Ours is built the other way round — formulations matched to breed groups and life stages, because that is what brings a retail customer back for the second bag.

Overview
A range your retailers can actually merchandise
Breed-specific products give a distributor a shelf story instead of a single SKU, and very few Indian exporters offer them. We supply the range in bulk for repackers and in retail-ready packs for buyers who sell through directly.
A small-breed adult dog needs a smaller kibble, higher energy density per gram and different calcium-to-phosphorus balance than a large-breed puppy whose joints are still forming. Selling both from one bag is convenient for the exporter and poor for the animal — and it gives a retailer nothing to explain at the counter. Our range is built as a matrix: breed size group across puppy, adult and senior, so a distributor can stock a coherent line rather than a single price point.
Production is at Indian plants working to documented HACCP procedures, with ingredient intake, cooking, coating, cooling and packing all recorded per batch. Every batch is tested before shipment for proximate composition — crude protein, crude fat, crude fibre, moisture and ash — plus salmonella and aflatoxin screening. The certificate of analysis travels with the container.
For most markets, live-animal-product rules mean the paperwork matters as much as the food. We arrange veterinary health certification, plant registration details and any import-permit attachments your authority requires, and we check them against your permit before dispatch rather than after arrival.

How we work
We source from India's established brands — we do not manufacture
Akarta Exports is a sourcing and export house. We do not own factories and we do not claim to. Our value is that we know which well-known Indian brands and manufacturers make what, to what standard, and at what price — and we buy from them to the exact specification you give us.
01 — Your specification, written down
We start from your specification, not from a catalogue. Grade, dimension, tolerance, finish, test standard, pack, artwork and labelling are put in writing and confirmed with you before a single enquiry goes out.
02 — Matched to the right Indian brand
We place that specification with established, well-known Indian brands and manufacturers in the cluster that genuinely makes the product — Morbi for tiles, Rajkot and Ludhiana for machinery, Meerut and Jalandhar for sports goods, Kerala and Gujarat for spices.
03 — Offers compared on merit
Because we own no plant and owe no factory a minimum offtake, we compare offers openly on quality, consistency, capacity and price — and tell you where a lower price will not hold up in your market.
04 — Inspected, consolidated, shipped
Our own inspectors clear the goods at the brand's plant and again before loading. Multiple brands and multiple divisions consolidate into one container, one invoice and one document set.
Brand names are disclosed to you on the offer and named on the inspection report, so you always know whose production you are buying. Where a buyer already has a preferred Indian brand, we are happy to source that brand and handle only the inspection, consolidation, documentation and shipping.
The range
What we supply
Tell us the segments you want to carry and the pack weights your market buys, and we will quote the matrix rather than a single article.
- Breed-specific formulations
- Recipes built for small, medium and large breed groups, with kibble size, energy density and mineral balance matched to the group rather than averaged across all dogs.
- Life-stage ranges
- Puppy, adult and senior formulations within the same product family, so a retailer can carry one brand across a dog's whole life instead of switching supplier.
- Dry extruded kibble
- The volume format worldwide: extruded, coated and cooled, in several kibble sizes and shapes, with chicken, lamb, fish and vegetarian protein bases.
- Functional variants
- Coat and skin support, joint support and sensitive-digestion variants for buyers who want a premium tier above the core range.
- Bulk supply for repacking
- Container-scale bulk product in 20 kg sacks for buyers who pack and brand inside their own market.
- Private-label programmes
- Your brand, your artwork, your pack weights — with feeding tables and nutrition panels written to your destination market's labelling rules.

Quality assurance
Nothing leaves India until our own inspectors clear it
Akarta runs an in-house quality department with inspectors assigned to each division. Goods are checked at the factory during production and again before loading, against the written specification agreed on your purchase order — not against the factory's own grading.
- Pre-production sample approved by the buyer before bulk manufacture begins
- In-line checks during production for shade, calibration, dimension and moisture
- Pre-shipment inspection with photographic report before container sealing
- Third-party inspection (SGS, Bureau Veritas, Intertek) arranged where required

Pet food is a food product with a shelf life and a moisture limit, so packing decides how much of the shelf life survives the voyage.

- Bulk 20 kg woven sacks with food-grade inner liners for repackers
- Private-label printing with your artwork, barcode and batch coding
- Several pack weights and formulations mixed within one container

Buyer questions
What importers usually ask us first
Can you produce to our own formulation?
Yes. Send your specification and guaranteed analysis and we will have it costed at the plants we work with, produce a trial batch for your approval, and lock that approved batch as the reference for subsequent production.
What documentation do we need to import pet food?
Most countries require a veterinary health certificate, an ingredient and origin declaration, and details of the registered production plant, often against an import permit issued in your country. Send us your permit or your authority's checklist and we will confirm what we can supply before you place the order.
What is the shelf life on arrival?
Sealed packs carry 18 months from manufacture. Because sea freight to most destinations takes three to six weeks, buyers typically receive stock with 15–17 months remaining, which we confirm on the batch declaration.
Do you supply vegetarian or single-protein formulations?
Yes. Chicken, lamb and fish protein bases are standard, and vegetarian formulations are available for markets where they sell — including single-protein variants for buyers positioning a sensitive-digestion tier.
