Textiles & apparel · Readymade garments

Woven apparel built from a graded size set, not a sample that fitted once.

Most garment orders fail on fit consistency and measurement drift rather than on stitching. We place production with audited units in Delhi NCR, Bengaluru, Tiruppur, Jaipur and Ahmedabad, work from a graded measurement chart with stated tolerances, approve a size-set sample before bulk cutting, and inspect at 20% and 60% of production instead of only at the end.

Overview

A tech pack, a size set, and an inspection plan

We are a merchant exporter, not a factory. Our value is in choosing the right unit for a construction, converting your brief into a manufacturable tech pack, and holding the unit to it through three inspection stages.

Choosing the unit matters more than negotiating the price. A shirt house with 8-thread felled-seam machines will not make good jeans; a knitwear unit cannot hold a tailored trouser. India's woven-garment capacity is concentrated in Delhi NCR and Noida for shirts, blouses and ladies' wear, Bengaluru for tailored bottoms and formal shirting, Jaipur and Jodhpur for hand-print and embroidered ranges, and Ahmedabad for denim. We place each style where it belongs.

The tech pack is the contract. Graded measurement chart with tolerances, stitch type and SPI per seam, seam allowance, interlining specification, trim card with buttons, zips, threads and labels, wash and care instructions, artwork placement, and packing. Anything left as an adjective becomes a dispute later.

Sampling runs in a fixed order — proto for construction, fit sample on the base size, lab dips for each shade, size-set sample across the graded range, then a pre-production sample that becomes the signed golden sample held both at the unit and at our office. Bulk cutting starts after written approval, not before.

Washing and finishing are quoted as a stage in their own right for denim and casual ranges: rinse, enzyme, stone, bleach, acid, ozone, laser and whisker treatments, with a wash standard approved against a physical reference and shade band, and residual shrinkage measured after wash so the pattern compensates correctly.

Testing and compliance are booked before production. Dimensional stability to ISO 6330 or AATCC 135, fastness to washing, rubbing, water, perspiration and light, seam slippage and strength, pilling, button and snap pull-off strength for kidswear, drawcord and small-parts safety to EN 14682 and 16781, plus azo-free, formaldehyde, nickel and phthalate screening.

Labelling is built to the destination market — fibre content and care in the required languages, country of origin, CE-relevant marks where applicable, size systems in UK, US, EU or your own grading, plus barcodes, hang tags, price tickets and marketplace labelling.

How we work

We source from India's established brands — we do not manufacture

Akarta Exports is a sourcing and export house. We do not own factories and we do not claim to. Our value is that we know which well-known Indian brands and manufacturers make what, to what standard, and at what price — and we buy from them to the exact specification you give us.

01 — Your specification, written down

We start from your specification, not from a catalogue. Grade, dimension, tolerance, finish, test standard, pack, artwork and labelling are put in writing and confirmed with you before a single enquiry goes out.

02 — Matched to the right Indian brand

We place that specification with established, well-known Indian brands and manufacturers in the cluster that genuinely makes the product — Morbi for tiles, Rajkot and Ludhiana for machinery, Meerut and Jalandhar for sports goods, Kerala and Gujarat for spices.

03 — Offers compared on merit

Because we own no plant and owe no factory a minimum offtake, we compare offers openly on quality, consistency, capacity and price — and tell you where a lower price will not hold up in your market.

04 — Inspected, consolidated, shipped

Our own inspectors clear the goods at the brand's plant and again before loading. Multiple brands and multiple divisions consolidate into one container, one invoice and one document set.

Brand names are disclosed to you on the offer and named on the inspection report, so you always know whose production you are buying. Where a buyer already has a preferred Indian brand, we are happy to source that brand and handle only the inspection, consolidation, documentation and shipping.

Quality assurance

Nothing leaves India until our own inspectors clear it

Akarta runs an in-house quality department with inspectors assigned to each division. Goods are checked at the factory during production and again before loading, against the written specification agreed on your purchase order — not against the factory's own grading.

  • Pre-production sample approved by the buyer before bulk manufacture begins
  • In-line checks during production for shade, calibration, dimension and moisture
  • Pre-shipment inspection with photographic report before container sealing
  • Third-party inspection (SGS, Bureau Veritas, Intertek) arranged where required

Buyer questions

What importers usually ask us first

What is your minimum order for a garment style?

Normally 600 to 1,000 pieces per style per colour for woven garments, and 800 to 1,000 for washed denim because the wash batch has its own minimum. Launch runs below that are possible when we can share a fabric lot across colourways, but the per-piece price rises noticeably and we say so on the offer rather than absorbing it into quality.

Can you work from our tech pack, or do you develop?

Both. If you send a tech pack we work to it and flag anything unmanufacturable before quoting. If you send sketches, references or a physical sample, we develop the pattern, grading and trim card and return a proto for your comment. Either way the approved size-set sample and golden sample become the reference for bulk.

How do you keep measurements consistent across a large order?

By approving a size-set sample across the full graded range before cutting, by writing tolerances into the chart rather than leaving them to interpretation, and by measuring garments during production at 20% and 60% completion. Drift caught at 20% is corrected on the line; drift found at final inspection is a reshipment argument.

Do you handle denim washing?

Yes, through washing units attached to the Ahmedabad and Delhi NCR clusters — rinse, enzyme, stone, bleach, acid, ozone and laser, with whiskering and hand-sanding where the design needs it. The wash is approved against a physical reference with an agreed shade band, and residual shrinkage is measured after wash so the pattern compensates correctly.

Are the units you use socially audited?

The units we place export programmes with hold current SEDEX/SMETA, BSCI or WRAP coverage, and we state the audit and its validity on the offer. If your protocol requires a specific audit or your own third-party assessment, tell us at the enquiry stage so we place the order only where that is already in place.

Can you apply our labels, tags and barcodes?

Yes. Woven and printed main labels, care and content labels in your market's required languages, size and origin labels, hang tags, price tickets, barcodes and marketplace labelling such as FNSKU are all applied at the unit so the goods arrive shelf- or fulfilment-ready.
