Overview

Two fluids doing several jobs at once

Both products in this range are multi-function fluids. Their difficulty is not viscosity — it is friction: they must lubricate gears and pumps while delivering a precisely controlled frictional grip on wet clutch plates and brake discs.

UTTO — universal tractor transmission oil — is the single fluid used in tractors and agricultural machines where the transmission, differential, final drives, hydraulic system, power take-off and oil-immersed wet brakes all draw from one common sump. It must therefore do four things at once: carry gear tooth loading with API GL-4 level extreme-pressure performance, act as a hydraulic fluid with anti-wear protection for the pump and lift circuit, deliver stable wet-brake and PTO clutch friction without chatter or grabbing, and resist the water ingress and dust that field work guarantees.

The friction requirement is what separates UTTO from an ordinary gear or hydraulic oil. Wet brake chatter and clutch judder are the classic symptoms of using the wrong fluid, and they come from the friction modifier system, not from the viscosity. Our UTTO grade is a high-VI fluid — typical KV 62 cSt at 40 °C, 9.5 cSt at 100 °C, VI 138, flash 215 °C, pour −33 °C — so it delivers cold hydraulic response on a winter morning and holds film strength on a hot afternoon under continuous load.

Where the tractor's engine shares oil with the transmission, a STOU (super tractor universal oil) is required instead of UTTO; we source STOU 15W-30 and 15W-40 grades against written specification. Where the machine has separate wet-brake and hydraulic circuits, standard hydraulic oil and GL-4 gear oil are the correct pairing and usually the cheaper one — tell us the machine and we will specify accordingly.

ATF Type-A (Suffix A) is the legacy automatic transmission fluid specification still widely required in older automatic gearboxes, torque converters, power-steering systems, some hydraulic systems and marine and industrial transmissions. It is a low-viscosity, high-VI fluid — typical KV 39 cSt at 40 °C, 7.2 cSt at 100 °C, VI 150, flash 200 °C, pour −36 °C — with oxidation inhibitors, anti-wear additives, seal-swell control and a friction modifier system tuned for smooth, consistent shift feel across the temperature range.

Modern automatics require manufacturer-specific fluids — Dexron VI, Mercon LV, ATF+4, JWS/T-IV, CVT and DCT fluids — which are not interchangeable with Type-A. We source those to specification as well; what matters is that you tell us the exact OEM fluid code, because in a modern automatic the wrong friction curve will cause shift shudder within a few thousand kilometres.

How we work

We source from India's established brands — we do not manufacture

Akarta Exports is a sourcing and export house. We do not own factories and we do not claim to. Our value is that we know which well-known Indian brands and manufacturers make what, to what standard, and at what price — and we buy from them to the exact specification you give us.

01 — Your specification, written down

We start from your specification, not from a catalogue. Grade, dimension, tolerance, finish, test standard, pack, artwork and labelling are put in writing and confirmed with you before a single enquiry goes out.

02 — Matched to the right Indian brand

We place that specification with established, well-known Indian brands and manufacturers in the cluster that genuinely makes the product — Morbi for tiles, Rajkot and Ludhiana for machinery, Meerut and Jalandhar for sports goods, Kerala and Gujarat for spices.

03 — Offers compared on merit

Because we own no plant and owe no factory a minimum offtake, we compare offers openly on quality, consistency, capacity and price — and tell you where a lower price will not hold up in your market.

04 — Inspected, consolidated, shipped

Our own inspectors clear the goods at the brand's plant and again before loading. Multiple brands and multiple divisions consolidate into one container, one invoice and one document set.

Brand names are disclosed to you on the offer and named on the inspection report, so you always know whose production you are buying. Where a buyer already has a preferred Indian brand, we are happy to source that brand and handle only the inspection, consolidation, documentation and shipping.

The range

Transmission fluid range

Two data-sheeted grades in stock supply, with OEM-specific fluids sourced to written specification.

UTTO — universal tractor transmission oil (wet brake)

Quality assurance

Nothing leaves India until our own inspectors clear it

Akarta runs an in-house quality department with inspectors assigned to each division. Goods are checked at the factory during production and again before loading, against the written specification agreed on your purchase order — not against the factory's own grading.

  • Pre-production sample approved by the buyer before bulk manufacture begins
  • In-line checks during production for shade, calibration, dimension and moisture
  • Pre-shipment inspection with photographic report before container sealing
  • Third-party inspection (SGS, Bureau Veritas, Intertek) arranged where required

Buyer questions

What importers usually ask us first

What is the difference between UTTO and STOU?

UTTO serves the transmission, final drive, hydraulics, PTO and wet brakes from a common sump, but not the engine. STOU adds engine oil detergency and dispersancy so a single fluid can also lubricate the engine. Use STOU only where the machine genuinely shares one charge with the engine; on machines with a separate engine sump, UTTO is the correct and better-optimised fluid.

Our tractor's wet brakes chatter. Is that the fluid?

Very often, yes. Brake chatter and clutch judder in a shared-sump tractor are classic symptoms of a fluid without the correct friction modifier system — typically a plain hydraulic or gear oil used in place of UTTO. A proper UTTO fill with wet-brake friction performance normally resolves it, provided the plates are not already glazed or worn.

Can ATF Type-A be used in a modern automatic gearbox?

No. Modern automatics require manufacturer-specific fluids — Dexron VI, Mercon LV, ATF+4, JWS/T-IV and similar — whose friction curves and viscosity are matched to their clutch materials and control software. Type-A in a modern box typically produces shift shudder and eventual clutch damage. Send us the OEM fluid code and we will source that exact fluid.

Can ATF be used as a hydraulic or power-steering fluid?

In many older systems, yes — ATF Type-A is specified for hydraulic power steering and for some hydraulic circuits, which is a large part of its continuing demand. Do not substitute it for an ISO VG anti-wear hydraulic oil in an industrial circuit unless the machine builder specifically allows it; the viscosity and additive system are different.

Do you supply these under our own brand?

Yes. Both grades are available in private label with your bottle, artwork, induction seal, hologram and batch coding, and they consolidate into the same container as engine oil, gear oil, hydraulic oil, brake fluid, coolant and grease on one invoice. The blender is disclosed on the offer and on every certificate of analysis.
