Textiles & apparel · Home textiles
Bed, bath, kitchen and table linen bought against thread count that actually exists.
Home textiles is the category where specification abuse is most common — inflated thread counts, GSM measured before finishing, cut sizes quoted before wash. We buy from Panipat, Sonipat, Karur, Erode and Solapur mills against measured construction, verify GSM and post-wash cut size on the approved lot, and mark cartons shade-lot-wise so your shelf never mixes tones.

Overview
Four buying groups, one quality file
Bed linen, terry towelling, kitchen and table linen, and soft furnishings each come from a different set of mills, and each has its own failure mode. We treat them as four separate technical files inside one order.
Bed linen is bought on real construction. A 300 TC percale in 40s×40s / 144×92 is a genuine product; a '1,800 thread count' sheet is a marketing number created by counting plies. We quote count, ends and picks per inch, weave, width, finished GSM and post-wash cut size, and we measure the approved lot rather than repeating the mill's claim.
Terry towelling is bought on GSM, pile construction and absorbency. Ring-spun, combed and zero-twist yarns behave very differently after twenty industrial washes, so hospitality buyers get a different specification from retail buyers even when the GSM figure is identical. Selvedge, dobby border, hem construction and stitch density are all written into the pack.
Kitchen and table linen from Karur and Erode is largely yarn-dyed — waffle, herringbone, chambray, jacquard and printed cotton — and the risk sits in colour bleeding and shrinkage rather than weight. We test fastness to washing and rubbing plus dimensional stability before approving a shade.
Soft furnishings — quilts, comforters, throws, blankets, cushion covers and cotton rugs — are bought on filling weight and fill power as much as on shell fabric. Polyester fill GSM, microfibre versus hollow fibre, stitch pattern and box construction are all specified, and compressed packing is quoted where your warehouse can absorb recovery time.
Certification we routinely arrange includes OEKO-TEX Standard 100 on finished articles, GOTS and OCS for organic cotton programmes, GRS for recycled fills, and social-audit coverage at the producing unit.

How we work
We source from India's established brands — we do not manufacture
Akarta Exports is a sourcing and export house. We do not own factories and we do not claim to. Our value is that we know which well-known Indian brands and manufacturers make what, to what standard, and at what price — and we buy from them to the exact specification you give us.
01 — Your specification, written down
We start from your specification, not from a catalogue. Grade, dimension, tolerance, finish, test standard, pack, artwork and labelling are put in writing and confirmed with you before a single enquiry goes out.
02 — Matched to the right Indian brand
We place that specification with established, well-known Indian brands and manufacturers in the cluster that genuinely makes the product — Morbi for tiles, Rajkot and Ludhiana for machinery, Meerut and Jalandhar for sports goods, Kerala and Gujarat for spices.
03 — Offers compared on merit
Because we own no plant and owe no factory a minimum offtake, we compare offers openly on quality, consistency, capacity and price — and tell you where a lower price will not hold up in your market.
04 — Inspected, consolidated, shipped
Our own inspectors clear the goods at the brand's plant and again before loading. Multiple brands and multiple divisions consolidate into one container, one invoice and one document set.
Brand names are disclosed to you on the offer and named on the inspection report, so you always know whose production you are buying. Where a buyer already has a preferred Indian brand, we are happy to source that brand and handle only the inspection, consolidation, documentation and shipping.

Quality assurance
Nothing leaves India until our own inspectors clear it
Akarta runs an in-house quality department with inspectors assigned to each division. Goods are checked at the factory during production and again before loading, against the written specification agreed on your purchase order — not against the factory's own grading.
- Pre-production sample approved by the buyer before bulk manufacture begins
- In-line checks during production for shade, calibration, dimension and moisture
- Pre-shipment inspection with photographic report before container sealing
- Third-party inspection (SGS, Bureau Veritas, Intertek) arranged where required

Buyer questions
What importers usually ask us first
How do you verify thread count?
We count on the approved lot rather than accepting the mill's label. Thread count is stated as single-ply ends plus picks per inch, with the yarn count declared alongside it, because a 300 TC in 40s yarn and a 300 TC in 20s yarn are completely different products. If a supplier quotes a four-digit thread count, it is a ply multiplication and we do not offer it.
What GSM should hotel towels be?
Most three- and four-star properties settle at 500–550 GSM for bath towels and five-star at 600–650 GSM, in combed two-ply pile with reinforced double-stitched hems. Above 650 GSM the towel takes longer to dry between guests and costs more to launder, which is why very heavy towels are usually a retail rather than a hospitality choice.
Can you supply organic cotton bed and bath linen?
Yes, through GOTS and OCS certified mills with transaction certificates issued against your shipment. Certified yarn has to be reserved before production, so plan on 75–95 days rather than the 50–75 days a conventional programme takes.
Do you handle retail packaging and barcoding?
Yes. PVC zip bags, printed retail boxes, belly bands, header cards, hang tags, care and content labels to your market's legal requirements, barcodes and marketplace labelling are all applied at the unit, so goods arrive shelf-ready with no re-packing at your end.
How is shade variation between cartons controlled?
By approving a lab dip against your reference, restricting each shipment to as few dye lots as possible, and marking every carton with its shade lot on both the carton and the packing list. Your warehouse can then keep lots separated on the shelf rather than discovering the difference in a customer's hands.
